Style That Helps

Every year I attempt to get my best friend something very unique and yet practical for Christmas. This year I decided to shop JacarandaStyle. The items they offer are not only beautiful and unique, but also hand made as well. I love that about the aspect of gift giving, but what I love even more is that JacarandaStyle donates a portion of the proceeds of every item sold to the Ethembeni School in South Africa.

The Ethembeni School of South Africa serves three hundred physically or visually disabled children throughout South Africa. It makes me feel really good to know that after setting out to find a unique item I found one that will help fund a school for children who otherwise would not have any education.

I have to say the Fusion Ceramics are gorgeous and unlike any other ceramics I have seen before. I chose the Moon Bowl because of the size of it, the vibrant colors it has, and the fact that it screams my best friends name when I look at it. If you want to find a one of a kid present for someone or yourself that is actually making a difference when you purchase it then check out JacarandaStyle and even get 10% off when you use the code “JSTYLE” until December 14th.

You can learn more about the charity aspect of the company on the site as well or perhaps by picking up Food and Wine, Traditional Home, Marie Claire, or The New York Times. It looks like I’m not the only one who thinks the items they offer are gorgeous. Just take a look at the bowl I picked out for my friend.

Tis The Season To Snow

It snowed, a bunch. I love it. It’s supposed to snow tonight as well and so we’ll be doing it all over again tomorrow. Meaning watching people wreck and go nuts because there is a little bit of snow on the ground.

So my dad should be home from surgery by now. I’m still waiting on my step mom to call again. It took way longer than they expected because the tumor was a lot bigger than they thought. Sounds really gross. He looked the surgery up on the net before he went in and apparently your adam’s apple is green. Yummy!

Timeless And Classic

The crunch to move is on for this family. Our daughter will be starting school next year and we feel it is really important to be in that perfect house, in the right school district where she can stay until she has graduated. We are not big fans of moving kids around as we’ve seen what it can cause.

Our new house will be fully stocked with new furniture. For us, it’s all about timeless, classy pieces. Pieces that stand out and really get the attention of people who come to visit. Not only visitors, but us as well. We want to be sitting there admiring our furniture choices 5 years from now and not regretting any prices we’ve paid or lengths we’ve gone to in order to get the right pieces.

So far I’ve calculated about $10,000 worth of new furniture and appliances we want and need. When looking at all of the living room sets, stainless steel appliances, and bedding I was shocked to see the prices of grandfather clocks were not as high as I had originally planned. It happens to be my must have item, the one thing I have always wanted and won’t be happy until I have one sitting in my new home.

Both of my aunts had or have grandfather clocks in their homes and I want one just as close as similar as I can find to theirs. I love the Miller II Grandfather Clock. It’s classic and absolutely gorgeous. While I would like to find something that has a small curio in the bottom I think this one will do perfectly if I don’t find that. I also love that it is not an antique, but has the same look as most antique clocks that I have seen. The filigree and bombe style bottom are really what I was looking for and if I am able to buy this clock I’ll be placing it right in my front room so everyone who walks in my door, or even approaches my door can see it.

I honestly don’t know anything about grandfather clocks or the history of them except they are gorgeous. I’m going to educate myself a little better before making any purchases by reading the Clocks Blog on the site.

WHAT?

It snowed. Me thinks I should catch up.

1. My dad is having surgery like, right now.

2. My head is packed full of crap again. Everyone else has the same drainage, but theirs seems to be turning into a chest issue. I just feel as if someone kicked me in the head for about  4 hours then I’m ready to go, then at about 10pm I’m dying again.

3. Sydney is unruly. Four your olds kinda suck because they think that since options exist they have them. More on that later.

4. I’m going to work on that layout today, because frankly I have no ambition to do anything else.

5. I threw a fit about money last night. It wasn’t pretty. It’s not my fault I’m getting screwed. Which reminds me. Today’s number one priority is to nix GOOGLE from my life. That means a nice email change from the fuckers.

6. Ok it wasn’t so much a fit as it was buyers remorse. I tend to worry about those things.

Ok I’m done typing for now. I’m off to see how I can make my blog a better place so I can be paid nothing.
