A few weeks ago I was told about an opportunity from The World Of Golf to review a Taylor Made Burner driver. I was shocked to see that the company was actually going send some of these drivers out to people to test out. I quickly signed up because I have been doing the golf club dance with my husband for a few years now.
By golf club dance I mean pick a partner and stick with it already! When he first started he had hand me down clubs. After learning that he really liked the game he graduated to low end clubs. From then on it has been a sight to watch him slowly replace everything with something more expensive and supposedly a better club. My philosophy was always that it was a golf club and well they all have to hit the same.
When I looked up the actual Burner driver and saw the price range was from $300.00 to $400.00 for one club I thought ok, yeah right. When I got the confirmation email saying the club would be arriving here on my birthday I was excited. I knew my stance was going to be does the price of a club actually give you anything more than something from the local “mart” would.
When I saw the club I quickly started to change my mind. Ok, it is very nice looking. It’s actually really really pretty for lack of a more girly term. I got all excited about how it looked and how big the head was. It has the biggest head I’ve seen on a club so far. I know, the bigger the head the bigger the sweet spot right? That’s what watching the golf channel will do for you.
So I told my husband to get one of his older less expensive drivers that anyone can go out and buy from the store right now and grab the Taylor Made Burner driver and let’s hit the golf course. It was about 10 degrees and we had just had an ice storm that week. We thought we’d hold out for warmer weather, but that just isn’t going to happen anytime soon.
I watched him hit the older driver and I thought eh ok whatever. When he hit the Taylor Made I could tell a difference right off the bat. The sound the club made while hitting the ball told me everything. It was louder which made me think it was going further. In fact it did. It also went straighter. I guess that has something to do with the length of the club. It’s a tad bit longer than all the other drivers we have around here.
Overall I concluded it is worth it. Granted you have the money to spend on a club and you are actually serious about the game. When I say serious I don’t mean you are striving for the PGA this year or anything. I mean you played and you actually enjoy it. I suggest that if you want to play golf you borrow or tag along with someone with clubs already. If you can’t do that start off with a cheaper set.
If you don’t lose interest then it’s worth it to log onto theworldofgolf.com and take a look at the higher end drivers. They look nice, they feel nice, and they actually do help your performance. Take a look at the video of my husband, hopefully you can hear what he’s saying instead of the fierce winds we had to shoot around. He was more than pleased with the difference that this club made!
