Living In The 80’s

My husband and I have this new tradition. It started really simply, by channel surfing late at night. We have a habit of staying up later on nights when Sydney sleeps over somewhere else. We found that a few channels have movies from the 80’s on the weekends, pretty late. We’ve been up until 3:00am watching things like Better Off Dead. That got us started talking about our favorite movies from the 80’s. I’ve got to admit that I’m a Molly Ringwald girl myself. There’s nothing better than an afternoon with a bowl of ice cream and Pretty In Pink. It’s the best movie from the 80’s besides Breakfast Club, and of course Goonies! I’ve seen them all 100 times.

Kevin mentioned WarGames. I hadn’t seen it and didn’t think it was my style. To my surprise we caught the end of it one night and I was really into it. It’s got all the elements you wanted in the 80’s like computers, which were somewhat of an unknown, and up and coming actors, Plus what an awesome message, there’s just no point in playing this game because there is no winner…..

I mentioned that we needed to get the dvd’s of all these movies we talked about and watch them. It’s just not as thrilling as seeing them on tv though. It’s also not as thrilling as seeing them at the movies, with friends, and eating popcorn would have been. No need to get depressed about not having that experience, because War Games is getting a 25th Anniversary treat! On Thursday, July 24th fans of the movie can see it playing in select theaters nationwide.

Bonus footage including never before seen interviews with Ally Sheedy, Matthew Broderick, and the film’s creator will be included in the viewing. Also, the ultimate for fans of War Games, a sneak peek at the sequal. How cool is that? I can only wonder what the sequal WarGames: The Dead Code will be like. The movie itself was so far ahead of the times when it was released that the sequel has much promise.

What Is Justice?

I’m not usually a fan of things that are based off of manga, I just don’t get into it. I do however love the Japanese horror style so I started to look into this movie and formulated the following thoughts. Ok, major horror fan. Even bigger fan of all things “urban legend” or Super Natural. Completely engrossed by anything that has translations and hidden meanings, so say I’m excited about DeathNote is an understatement.

Unknown

So on May 20 and 21st Death Note will be in select theaters, mine isn’t one of them. Although, there is one close enough to drive which shocked me. We don’t usually rate here in Indiana. The list of theaters was pretty extensive so check it out even if you live in a rural area. You can sign up for event notices and theater/ticket info on the site as well.

Now, the movie is kind of cryptic to me, which I love. I already told you it’s based on a manga. A student finds a notebook, the notebook, the death one to be exact. It happens to have been dropped by a god of death and of course this means that the student has some fate he wasn’t expecting to have. Anyone who has their name in the notebook, dies. Then comes in the cops who are wondering why all these criminals are dropping dead.

It’s a classic case of what is justice? Is it justice to stop someone from committing murder, which we have pounded into our head is wrong OR is it justice to end the criminal lives of these people who have done far worse than they will ever be punished for? Which one is society better off with? I’m going to wait to see this movie to form my opinion.

Keep Track Of Your Movies

Lately we have been really into movies. We’ve been doing the whole get all the movies you say in the 1980’s when you were just a little kid and watch them again thing. It must be the winter or something? It’s been enjoyable, but I’m really looking for some type of movie organizer to keep it all straight. I found a really neat thing called All My Movies. All My Movies is a personal movie database that can be downloaded and used to create your own movie catalog program. The best part? A very simple to use loan manager that helps you keep track of who you have loaned your movies to when you share with friends.

Remembering The 90’s

Yesterday the girl at the portrait studio and I were talking about how all the trends come back around. She said when Hyper Color Shirts came back then she’d know it was complete. Now for those of you who have no clue what a Hyper Color Shirt is, screw off. Seriously. The long and short of it was they are shirts that will change color when touched by your hand, although they rarely eve did anything special. Oh, unless you count looking a hot mess when it rained. According to the search, ebay has some for sale, if you wanted to get in your way back machine and say Hi!

What got me started was sitting here going, does anyone remember Janice from Friends? The last two days I have watched it and they have been from way back in the start of things, I remember when people dressed that way every day. Now, here is where I show my true age.

I remember being a Freshman in high school and all the “cool” upperclassmen were going to see Wayne’s World the Friday night it came out at the theater. We went too. So I saw Wayne’s World on opening night. I remember sitting in a hotel room with my family watching OJ run from the cops in his white SUV and then on the way home from Sea World every time we saw an SUV that was white someone had to be a smart ass and scream IT’S OJ!

Probably the saddest, most humiliating thing I remember is the Christmas when I thought I’d die if I didn’t get Vanilla Ice’s cassette tape for Christmas. My mom worked in a group home and she cleared it with the directors to bring an orphan home for Christmas that she was really fond of. I remember sitting in the car with this girl and getting all stupid listening to Ice Ice Baby.

I watched Shooter the other day and wondered how old Mark Wahlberg was because I remember seeing Marky Mark when I was 14 getting something to eat after a New Kids On The Block concert with his mom of all people. I think he had to be about 15 or so. You know back when he was a nobody, and just Marky Mark Donnie’s little brother, not Mark Wahlberg super star!

The Mist

Have you ever found yourself in a threatening situation with others? If you haven’t you are lucky, because I have and it’s one of the scariest situations I have ever encountered. I think the most terrifying type of situation for me is having an encounter with someone who is clearly capable of hurting you, because they have done it to others in the past.

If you knew that someone was a suspected murderer and they were threatening you wouldn’t that be terrifying as opposed to your run of the mill I’ll Kill You thrown about in anger? I have had that happen to me. I had people throwing around that statement that I was eventually put into a face to face situation with.

I was terrified. My address and phone number were offered up to the person like nothing, by the very people who were supposed to protect you in situations like these. So the thought of what could happen and coming face to face with “evil” made me stop taking little things for granted, and start watching what everyone does. You can’t trust just everyone because you never know what skeletons people have in their closets.

When I was face to face with this person I kept my cool and did a fair amount of psychological chatting. I played up the ego so that he would be caught off guard. After a few questions about himself and redirecting him to another topic that he was even more passionate about hating than me I freely walked away….fast.

Although my situation was nothing like The Mist by Stephen King I feel like I faced my own true fear. Just like the movie where David Drayton and his son are trapped along with fellow townspeople by The Mist. By the end David wonders what scares him more the unknown lurking mist or the people he’s actually trapped with whose help is imperative to get out of the situation. He discovers that the threatening situation starts to reveal the fellow townspeople’s true character, which can be the most horrifying thing of all.

300

We got the movie 300 in the mail today. I am just not interested in this at all. We watched something last week on The History Channel about the real story. The last stand of the 300 I think it was called. While interesting, the movie just looks dull and dreary to me. I was hoping for something animated or fun. We’ve got 4 movies from Blockbuster.com sitting here, I’m not sure why the keep sending us another one I think your limit is 3.

We’ve got Shooter feat. Marky Mark without the Funky Bunch. I’m interested in this one. I think I’ll watch it tomorrow. I have like 6 episodes of Private Practice to watch. I’m tempted to delete them all and just forget it. Obviously if it hasn’t held my attention at this point, it’s not going to.

Actually I think I’ll see what’s on at the movies and go to one tomorrow. I’d go Sunday, but this is apparently the day that the world stops turning for 4 quarters so Tom Brady can be a prick at the RCA Dome.

Transformers

So you ever wonder why a grown person would be so obsessed with something? I guess I can see if it’s Star Wars or something that has been around for years and years. But Transformers? I remember them being popular when I was a little girl. Then they disappeared. All of the sudden this movie comes out. Not unusual everything old is new again.

Then, next thing you know grown men are completely bat shit obsessed with it. They count down the days til it comes out in the theaters, they count down the days til it is on video and they can rush out and buy a copy. Guys, it’s not Harry Potter. I have heard of grown men getting the good and bad Transformers on them. I mean to each his own. I’d have to know the person as and individual to understand the tattoo reasoning. For the most part, the loser that sits on the computer with no life raving about Transformers is just well, a loser.

It’s Not Healthy To Hate This Kid Is It?

The bully is at it again. The other day I got completely crappy with her and the newest recruit she has working for her. My child was saying bye to them and they were completely crappy with her. One made a crappy noise at her and the other just stared at her blankly. They were both in time out so the mood I guess should have been expected. What I expected though was one of the workers to say you and you, where are your manners at?

What I should have done was say hey you, hey you too, my kid is saying bye to you and that’s not very nice to ignore her or make noises at her. That’s bad manners ladies. Or something along those lines. It might not be my business, but I’m sick of this kid picking on everyone. So what do I do? While I’m signing her out I look both of them right in the face and say WHAT IS WRONG WITH THOSE TWO? They looked as if someone had actually paid attention to them!

I can’t help but feel sorry for them, but enough is enough. I’m going to have to talk to the director next week. I saw the bully run for a toy today as I was leaving and snatch it from Sydney. I almost fetched her up and took her out of there, but I know she has to get used to the real world.
