Moving A Nation
Last year I mentioned I wanted to take part in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. I even donated money to a local team, but when I looked into it the entire thing seemed to fizzle out. This year I have more motivation. I’m looking to improve my overall health and hope that by the time the walk comes around I’ll be in great shape and not afraid to take part. Last year I was afraid. Afraid that I wouldn’t make it the entire way or that I would get too out of breath. Stupid little things when you look at the bigger picture of what this walk is about.
This year I’m dedicated to not only taking part, but also being a captain and I’ve got my team lineup already forming in my head. It’s important that team captains who are motivated for the cause and have the actual time to dedicate to this sign up and motivate their walkers. As I mentioned, the entire thing seemed to fizzle out last year with little to no media coverage or actual sign up information around town.
This has to change, and it can with us, right now. I think I’m a great candidate for a team captain because I’ve dealt with some things like this in the past. Other than that I’m just a girl who knows a person who has Alzheimer’s and would like to see everything done to bring awareness and raise money for this disease. If you have that drive or desire then you would make a great team captain too. You have to remember it’s up to you to motivate and recruit your walking team, etc. If you don’t think that’s something you want to do then please still sign up to participate by walking or donating.
The Memory Walk will take place sometime in the fall and is a 2-3 mile walk usually held on the weekend in the morning. That eliminates my second fear of being out in the 90 degree heat in mid August walking for 12 hours. It’s doable. I’m taking this as a life lesson of sorts and a little challenge. Exercise is the key to good health and I’m going to condition myself daily to walk until 3 miles is nothing for me to handle. Not only am I motivated to help this cause I’m getting motivated to help myself and it feels great!
This walk will take place in more than 600 communities so finding a location near you should be no problem at all. The motto? Together, we can MOVE a nation. Moving closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.
